If there is one thing in this world that I can always use more of it’s <del>shoes</del> storage space! I’ve managed to work with what I have but when I catch myself leaving things around because I have no where else to put them it’s time to find a solution. Case in point, the space underneath my console. Here is a shot taken from the top.

And now a shot of the bottom…

That’s right! Oh there’s shame in my game. So let’s see, we’ve got a box of cat food because it’s been more convenient to have it there than in the pantry. That green thing is a cutting board that I bought at Pivot House that I’m not quite ready to use (it’s so nice!), some stuff from Home Goods, my UV light for my gel manicure, because where does one keep that otherwise? A can of paint that actually needs to go into a small jar and some rollers and wrapping paper. Why are they there? Because there just isn’t a designated spot for them and that’s where they ended up. I started thinking that I could find a place for all of those things but then I was in Target and came across these.

I loved them! But there were three things standing in my way of purchasing them. 1. Might be too small. 2. Wasn’t feeling the price because 3. I could make those for much cheaper. I love that they were black and white chevron because I thought about how the pattern would play off of the urn that’s on the console. So, off I went asking my baby making friend for her left over diaper boxes and to fabric.com to order the fabric.

I wanted to use diaper boxes because they are made of pretty thick cardboard and I needed something sturdy. Once I got them I just cut the flaps off in order to get started.

Now here’s where things got tricky for me. I had no idea what I was doing. No plan at all. Just a box and some fabric. I went online to see if I could find any tutorials and there were tons. The only problem was they all required cutting and folding in ways that meant the sides of my boxes wouldn’t match the front. I had a heavily patterned fabric and I wanted the fabric to wrap all the way around so I just began to follow this tutorial but realized it wasn’t going to give me what I wanted so I just messed around until I figured it out. Now the best way for me to show you how I accomplished this is using a smaller box. So if you’re looking to learn how to wrap a patterned fabric around a box then stick around!

* * *

So I started out by placing my box in the middle of my fabric. (Please Note: This was leftover fabric from after doing my diaper boxes, it turns out it wasn’t enough but you can still get an idea) The amount of fabric you will need will depend on the size of your box. For my diaper boxes I used about 1 1/2 ft.

Next you will have to cut 4 slits (2 on each side) measuring roughly 1″ wider than your box and stopping once you’ve reached the corners.

Next, you’ll cut those slits off creating a piece of fabric that looks like an I, or an H depending how you look at it!

Then just place your box in the middle again and take the bottom part of your “I” and lift it in order to wrap it around your box.

Here’s another shot from the side.

Now, remember how I said that this was a scrap leftover piece of fabric and it wasn’t big enough? Well here is what I mean. Your fabric, and the fabric for my diaper boxes will be long enough to wrap around the back…unless you have a humongous box in which case you may need to add fabric separately. Here is an idea of how long your fabric would come out to.

You would then just wrap that around the back of the box along with the other side. Ideally, you want to measure the perimeter of your box to figure out how wide you’ll need your fabric to be. With me so far? Now that piece that is still laying flat…you can cut that right off we won’t be using it.

All that is left to do now is glue this sucker down. You can use spray adhesive or a hot glue gun. I went with the glue gun but either will work. And since this fabric didn’t wrap all the way around I used the piece I cut off to add it to the back. I started by gluing the faces (the four sides), underneath, and then carried the fabric inside of the box.

Did anyone else catch on that I cut the fabric in the wrong direction and totally missed out on the chevron pattern, ha! Still looks good! And now for the completed diaper boxes using this exact tutorial!

It’s Pinterest Challenge time and I don’t know about where you are but I am loving this warmer weather in NY! Last weekend I finally finished turning over my fall/winter clothes to my spring/summer clothes. The one thing that always remains a staple in my wardrobe no matter what time of year it is are my scarves. I may have a scarf hoarding problem! Now even though the weather is warming up it still is a bit chilly and a nice lightweight scarf this time of year is perfect! There are a ton of different ways to tie a scarf but now that the weather is warmer I try to tie my scarves in ways that don’t make them so bulky around my neck. I found a fun way to tie a scarf from an image on Pinterest. I changed one step in the tutorial because I didn’t like the way it turned out but here is my way of tying it!

To start off you’ll want to drape the scarf around your neck backwards with the ends behind you.

Next, take the ends and cross them behind you and bring them to the front.

Then, take your loop and twist it once.

After that, take your right hanging end and place it into the bottom opening of your twist.

Now take the left hanging end and do the same thing, place it inside the opening twist.

All you need to do now is tighten up your knots by shimming them up until your satisfied with how it looks!

Just another fun and chic way to wear your scarf!

Happy Monday all! I know I have been the worst blogger of the year and yikes it’s only May! Well I am here today to chat with you guys about the ol’ blog! I can honestly say that I have a ton of projects I want to get done but they require sanding, spraying and warm weather so you can imagine how excited I am that the time has come! I’m so ready to get the ball rolling again! I have also been thinking about how I love this blog because it allows me to share what I love which then made me start thinking about adding to it. Some of you may or may not know but on top of teaching second graders and DIYing/crafting I am also a freelance makeup artist and I love all things beauty related. It got me thinking that I would love to add some beauty tips to the blog and maybe even some tutorials! Maybe even some fashion too! I mean it all deals with style and this is Made2Style…ha! see how I did that. Anyway I would love to know what you guys think or if you have anything that you would love to see like how to create a flawless face or cover undereye circles, maybe even how to curl your hair and make it last!

Now don’t fret, I’ll still be crafting and DIYing away! In fact, I am working on finally completing my office/crafting area and I have some diaper boxes I am planning on turning into storage containers. A girl can never have too much storage!! Now one last thing I need from you guys! I have this pretty wooden box that I purchased at a flea market almost a year ago (can’t wait to share the story of how I got it) and it needs a change. I am having the hardest time deciding how I should paint it! Here is the box:

I’m in love the design on the top and my first plan was to paint it a high gloss white and try to gold leaf the design. Then I started thinking that it might just be best if I keep the whole thing white and just polish up the hinges. Now I’m just lost. So if you like one idea over the other or have a completely different idea, I’m all ears! Well, in this case, I’m all eyes!

Ok now onto a cute little treat my friend Emily and I made this past week! I have one of the most amazing assistants at work and this past week she finished up her last class of Grad school and so we whipped up this cute graduation hat treat found via Pinterest about 15 minutes before we presented them AKA super easy to make!

Here is what you’ll need:

Lollipop Stick/Cakepop sticks (found at craft stores)
Foam or anything that can hold the sticks upright
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups(miniature)
Reese’s Pieces
Ghirardelli Squares
Frosting in a bag (trust me bag is best)
Pull and peel Twizzlers or Licorice

We didn’t end up using the licorice but rather bubble tape but for presentation purposes I think the licorice would have looked better. All you simply do now is…

1. Stick the peanut butter cup upside down onto the stick.
2. Dab a little frosting in the center (it works as glue.)
3. Add your Ghirardelli square, upside down.
4. Add another dab of frosting and then a Reese’s pieces.
5. Some more frosting and then your “tassel.”

So cute right? And super easy!! Warning though- if you don’t plan on eating them right away or making them beforehand I recommend keeping them in the fridge so the chocolate doesn’t melt!

Just in time for graduation season!

Oh why hello! Yes, I have been MIA for quite awhile now. I wish I had a good reason but the truth is sometimes I just run out of steam and in all honesty I really haven’t had any projects in the works. Well I am here today to share a fun little change-up I made in my kitchen. Remember these frames?

So, these suckers have been sporting those Fall leaves up until last week. I know, major fail. Would you believe me if I told you that I didn’t even notice until the other day? Well regardless, I finally changed them. Since they reside in the kitchen and there are three of them I thought how cute would it be to have them say “EAT”. So I hit up the craft store and picked up some green colored scrap paper that not only tied in with the rest of the kitchen but that also gave the feeling of spring time!

To achieve this I simply printed out each letter from Print Shop.

Cut each letter out and then traced them on brown scrap paper. I used painter’s tape to hold the letters down.

Once they were traced I cut them out and then measured them so that they sat right smack in the middle of the 12×12 paper and used craft glue to hold it down.

Once I had them all done I just placed them into the frames and just hung them! They definitely brighten the space and I certainly can’t help but notice them!

Anyone else out there making some fun and colorful changes to their decor? I’m currently crushing on coral (say that 5 times fast!) and have some ideas for the living room. Now that the weather is slowly warming up I’m getting very excited to wipe out the spray paint! Bring on Spring!

I am so flippin’ excited for the winter edition of the Pinterest Challenge! Now there is a very good chance that you may have pinned this image or you have at least scrolled past it on Pinterest.

Well this image was my inspiration. I couldn’t help but think how cool it was and I totally wanted to tackle an elbow patch. Being true to who I am I knew that needle felting was not the direction I wanted to go in but rather something with some more bling! I’ve seen some tops online that offer sequin elbow patches but they were well over $50 and that just wasn’t happening so true to form I decided I would DIY it.

I went to Joann’s to see if I could find a sequined fabric but they just didn’t have what I was looking for. I also looked online but I was worried that what I would order wouldn’t be what I expected. My idea was to head down to NYC and go to Mood…this was months ago. So when I saw the Pinterest Challenge post over at YHL I knew exactly what I wanted to tackle. The only problem was, I was just not looking forward to going into the city nor did I have time so I went back to Joann’s and thought I would try something else, sequined ribbon. I had no idea if it was going to work so I was just hoping for the best but to save you from the gut wrenching nervous feeling of not knowing I’ll let you in on a secret: it totally worked!

Keep reading to find out how to:

What you’ll need is 1 yard a sequined ribbon, any extra fabric you have laying around, fabric adhesive, (that’s right, no sew!) fray check and scrap paper. I happened to have a sweater that has elbow patches so I used that as my guide but you could easily trace your hand and use that as your guide.

Using the shape, I traced it out onto some leftover fabric I had, creating two elbow patches.

Now to apply the ribbon to the patches I used Tear Mender which is a fabric adhesive. The reason I chose to use Tear Mender was because it allows for flexibility and considering these are going on my elbows they need to be flexible. I purchased it at Joann’s.

To attach the ribbon I simply added a thin layer to one half of the patch as well as a thin layer to the ribbon and then pressed them together, waited a few minutes and then did the same thing for the other half.

Then I trimmed off the ribbon and added fray check all around the edges.

The best part was that even though there was ribbon on top of fabric the patch was still quite flexible!

To add them to my sweater I just marked the area where I wanted it to start and with the adhesive, applied a thin layer and laid it down! Be sure to add a small piece of cardboard inside the sleeve so that the glue doesn’t seep through.

I wore this all day on Monday and it really added that little bit of sparkle I was looking for!

If I head into the city soon I may still try it again with just a sequined fabric but for now this works just fine!
