Happy Monday everyone! I particularly love this Monday because school is closed today thanks to the pesky weather! Hopefully the icy roads will clear up so I can head out but I’d be more than happy to stay in all day! So I wanted to share with you today one of my favorite body scrubs that I make which in turn makes an awesome gift to give away! If you aren’t aware, I have a LOVE relationship with coconut oil. You can check out my post on my coconut hair mask here! It’s great for cooking with, it’s fantastic for your hair, and it’s amazing for your skin. Right about now is when our skin starts to seriously dry out. From the cold air to the steaming hot showers, let’s face it our poor bodies are flaking! I try to use some type of exfoliating scrub in the shower to get rid of my dry skin once to twice a week. I’ve been DIYing my scrubs for about 2 years now and I love them! This one especially! It has the sugar to take away all your dry skin and then the coconut oil to bring back the moisture our skin needs! Today I am going to share my most favorite one which is the lemon sugar scrub. Something about the fresh scent of lemon just gets me!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Start by filling the jar you will be using about 3/4 of the way with your sugar.
Next, pour the sugar out into a bowl and add about 5 tablespoons of coconut oil. You can’t really measure wrong here. As long as you have a creamy consistency you should be good. About half sugar/half coconut oil.
Just mix it up until it’s all combined.
This is when you’ll want to add your essential oil. I used about 35-40 drops of lemon. You can add as much or as little as you want depending on the strength of the scent you want. Once that was mixed in I added one drop of yellow food coloring, just to give it that pop of yellow color!
Then I just popped it into my jar, closed the lid tightly and threw on my label!
The great thing about these scrubs is most of the products can be substituted. If you’re looking for a deeper exfoliant you may want to use sea salt instead of sugar. You may also substitute the coconut oil for olive oil. And of course you can use any essential oil scent you want! Peppermint might be a fun one to try!
I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t appreciate a body scrub for a gift, especially this time of year! I’m linking up to the Dare To DIY series! Head over to Decor and the Dog to check out some more handmade gift ideas!
