I’m always looking for little trinkets when I’m out shopping to decorate with. Whether it be a cute vase, candle or a vintage bowl. If it catches my eye, it comes home with me! I have been seeing deer antlers used as decor forever now and love the touch of nature that they add so naturally I need to have them! I tried looking on Etsy for some but couldn’t find what I was looking for and then I was all “Umm Cindy, did you forget your father is a hunter??” So off to Pops I went and BAM, there in his office was a deer’s antler! It wasn’t as big as I would like but it would do. I’ve informed him and my brother to keep their eyes open while they’re out. So here is the antler I confiscated.
Pretty simple but I wasn’t feeling whatever was going on at the end there. Maybe it’s just me but leftover caracas doesn’t really scream coffee table decor. Here is where the gold leafing came in. I could have tried to saw it off or go with another approach but let’s get real, if you can make it gold, make it gold!
I started by dabbing the adhesive pen all around the area and then waited about 45 minutes for it to be tacky.
Once it was dried enough I used the sponge brush to add the leafing.
I’m happy with the way it turned out. I’m hoping to get a bigger one at some point but for now it fits perfectly!
i thought about asking my dad for an extra antler too…but i don’t know how he would feel about me gold leafing it…i feel like he has plenty though!
Go for it! I’ve seen where some people have gold leafed the tips of the antlers too…might have to give that a try next time!
I love that!! Too bad I don’t know any hunters. How about you send that one to me when you get a bigger one?
Or better yet, I’ll get us both big ones and send it to you!
