DIY Gold Leaf Ornaments

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you’re soaking in all that this wonderful time of year has to offer! I decided to extend it by putting up my Christmas tree shortly after Halloween and I’m so happy I did! When I mentioned it to my husband he was so excited it was a no brainer. I knew I married him for a reason ;).

I try to change up my tree each year. I’ve done green and white a couple years ago and all white last year but this year I went with gold and because I have the white I tossed some pieces in there as well. DIY Gold Leaf Ornament

I am a huge fan of tree fillers but I also love classic round ornaments so I wanted to add some more. When I was going through my bins I found a bag of  clear ornaments and went to my craft drawers and grabbed some gold leaf and white paint and decided to make some ornaments of my own! DIY Gold Leaf Ornament

The first thing I did was pour the paint inside the ornament to coat it. I added a little drop of water to make it spread easier. Make sure to hold the ornament open side down to let out any extra paint. DIY Gold Leaf OrnamentOnce that was complete I used my gold leaf pen to apply the adhesive all along the bottom of the ornament. I wasn’t careful by any means, I just spread it all around just making sure to cover it. Once it was tacky feeling I laid the gold leaf sheet on it.DIY Gold Leaf Ornament At first I was using a brush to wipe off the excess paper but then I switched to my fingers and found that to be easier. DIY Gold Leaf OrnamentI continued this same process with all the ornaments and then added ribbon to the tops for hanging!
Another fun thing I did was after filling an ornament with paint I used a sharpie and some adhesive letters to make a We said “I Do” 2016 ornament! I love how they all turned out! DIY Gold Leaf OrnamentDIY Gold Leaf OrnamentDIY Gold Leaf Ornamentdsc05484dsc05487Anyone else change up their tree each year? What’s been your favorite color scheme yet?

Fall Pumpkin Centerpiece

Fall 2016 is in full swing and I will say I am pumped for it! I am definitely a summer girl but once the temperatures start to cool the attic boxes come down, if you know what I mean 😉 There are pumpkins spread all around the house and yummy smelling candles burning. This season always gives me the push I need to get my creative juices flowing and that didn’t change when I decided to create a little centerpiece for our kitchen table. I always keep fresh flowers on this table but I wanted to do a little something different for the new season.

If you’ve been following for awhile you might remember when I threw my best friend her Fall themed baby sprinkle. You can click that link to check it out or view the photo below.  I had purchased some pumpkins at the orchard and carved them out and used them as planters on the tables.Fall Pumpkin CenterpieceUsing this as some inspiration I hit up Michaels and purchased a faux pumpkin along with some floral pieces and floral foam.

Fall Pumpkin CenterpieceThe first thing I did was cut out a circle at the top of my pumpkin. Just like I were carving an actual pumpkin, I used my carving tools.

Next, I measured my foam to make sure it fit inside. I had to trim the sides and shorten it a bit.

Fall Pumpkin CenterpieceAfter it was all measured I took it out and placed my flowers in it. The arrangement and flowers are up to you of course. I’ve kept Fall pretty neutral this year.

Fall Pumpkin CenterpieceOnce it was all done I placed it back inside the pumpkin and made any fixes that were needed. Fall Pumpkin CenterpieceAnd that’s it…super easy! Now I know you could probably find these arrangements already done in your local craft store but trust me when I say, nothing beats being able to look over and say, I made that!

My Beautiful Bridal Shower

Hi everyone! It’s been awhile since I’ve written a post but it turns out planning a wedding takes a lot of work! I will admit the entire process has been quite daunting and a ton of work. Being the DIYer that I am I wanted to take on at least one task so I decided to make my own invitations. I’ve made tons of invitations before so I knew what to expect but being that these were our wedding invitations it quickly became a much bigger deal! I’m happy to say they turned out just as I wanted and the response cards are slowly rolling in! The wedding is less than 2 months away and the excitement is really starting to build now!

This past weekend my amazing mother and MOH, my best friend, threw me the most beautiful shower a girl could ask for! I didn’t know anything about it other than the date and the location.  It was held at the same restaurant that Frank and I had brunch the morning he proposed to me, The Bedford Post Inn in Bedford, NY. My best friend took on the task of decorating the space and there was no way I couldn’t come on here and share it because she blew me away!! I seriously think she needs to start a party planning business! The theme she went with was blush and gold…I mean could she know me any better??

For those who have been asking, the skirt I wore that day was made for me by Welcome to Royalty I was so in love with it! I literally felt like Cinderella in it! I went to Joann’s and purchased a gold sequin ribbon to create a belt to give it a little touch of sparkle and the lace top was one I already owned!

We are officially 50 days away from the wedding and I cannot wait!!

Thanksgiving Ideas

Happy Monday all! It’s a short work week and I’m ready for the mini break! I wanted to stop in today to share some Thanksgiving crafts from years past if anyone is looking for some inspiration for their tablescapes! Enjoy and I hope you all have an amazing Thanksgiving!

{Stool Makeover} Gold Dipped Legs

The school year is off to a great start! I must say I’ve got a cute class or at least they have me believing that! The verdict is still out 😉 While putting my classroom together over the summer I came across a stool that someone was tossing and I am all about turning trash to treasure so naturally I did a little makeover!

I started by giving the top a light sanding since there were some worn out spots.  I also followed it up with some wood filler in between the pieces of wood since I felt that the paint would fall inside those cracks and not allow for a smooth finish.

Stool Makeover - Gold Dipped Legs I Made2StyleI had a quart of primer that I began brushing on and it took me about 5 minutes before I realized I was crazy and went and got some spray paint of the primer instead.  With there being so many sides to tackle with the legs it was very hard brushing the primer on and spraying it made it soo much eaiser! When I had sprayed some paint over a part the I had brushed for whatever reason this happened…

I mean really? Since the paint was still wet I used a paper towel to wipe as much off as I could and then sanded the rest off and re-painted. Point of this? Not every project runs smoothly!Stool Makeover - Gold Dipped Legs I Made2StyleStool Makeover - Gold Dipped Legs I Made2StyleNext I used what I had for paint and even mixed some colors to make sure I had enough.

Stool Makeover - Gold Dipped Legs I Made2StyleI would recommend using spray paint for this but I didn’t want to spend any money on this project so I was all about using what I had.
Stool Makeover - Gold Dipped Legs I Made2StyleStool Makeover - Gold Dipped Legs I Made2StyleI left the bottoms free of the blue paint because I wanted to paint those gold. To make sure the gold went up the same length on all legs I simply cut a piece of paper and marked how high it was and then added painter’s tape all around.Stool Makeover - Gold Dipped Legs I Made2StyleStool Makeover - Gold Dipped Legs I Made2StyleThen with some gold spray paint I sprayed the bottoms! Of course I don’t remember what I used #bloggerfail

Tray Table Makeover

About 5 years ago I attended what is called the Ultimate Family Yard Sale. It’s held on an airport lot and people can rent tables to sell their stuff or you can go to buy.  I had gone one year to check it out and then ended up coming back the next year to rent a table.  When I was walking around scoping out the tables a tray table totally caught my eye.  It turned out the table was not for sale it was just there to hold items that were.  Lucky for me, I’m a smooth talker and convinced the woman to sell it to me. I had so many ideas for it but like a lot of the furniture pieces I own it made its way into the pile and I forgot all about it.  Fast forward to now. I was looking for a little side table to place next to the upholstered chair in our living room and the tray table came to mind.  I knew it would need a little freshening up so I gave it a fresh paint job and a new top.

I used Zinsser oil based primer to start with.Tray Table MakeoverTray Table MakeoverTray Table Makeover

Then I used Rustoleum’s Champagne as the color.

The bamboo base in the tray was not really working for me so I went to my local glass and mirror shop and had a mirror cut to size. Easy peasy! Glad to have finally put the table to use!

Do you hoard furniture like myself? No? Just me huh…great. 😉

Ikea Vittsjo Makeover

Happy Monday everyone! I’m sensing some spring in the air and I’m super excited! I’m currently on spring break and enjoying the time off. I’ve got quite the to do list and I’m slowly checking everything off starting with some things around the house.  One thing I’ve been wanting to do in our living room is add some shelving in a corner that was crying for a little love. I’ve always had my eyes on the Ikea Vittsjo shelving unit.  I’ve loved all the hacks I’ve seen and thought it would be perfect for the space!

Up until about a week ago the area housed a bar cart.

I had plans to sell the bar cart but once I took everything off and cleaned it up I realized what a great piece it is and so it’s now making its home in the dining room, pics to come soon!

For the shelves I purchase 2 of the Vittsjos.

Ikea Vittsjo Makeover

Unfortunately these shelves only come in black and thats not what I was looking for so out came the spray paint. I used Zinsser oil based primer and Rust-oleum Metallic paint with the gold top.  I assembled the pieces first before spraying. For each unit I used about 1 1/2 cans of primer (2 coats) and 2 cans of the metallic paint.

Vittsjo Makeover

My best advice for this is once you think you’re all done bring the piece outside. Even though I was working inside the garage with the door open it was amazing how many spots I saw that I missed once I brought it out in pure daylight! There are a ton of sections that you are spraying so having someone else take a look can also help make sure you haven’t missed any spots!

Once they were all sprayed I brought them inside. The majority of the unit has glass shelves except for the top and the bottom piece which are dark wood.  Since that wouldn’t go with the look I had going on I ordered some contact paper that looked like marble.  I ordered mine here

Ikea Vittsjo MakeoverIkea Vittsjo MakeoverIkea Vittsjo Makeover

I ordered one roll which was only able to cover two of the shelves so I had to order another roll for the two top shelves.  Since I don’t necessarily need the top pieces to put it together I grabbed my knick knacks and decorated the shelves.

I still have to add the tops on, change up some pictures in the frames and adding some more items. I’m thinking there is a trip to HomeGoods in my immediate future!
