The time has finally come. I’m losing my makeup vanity. It not only has been one of my top posts on Made2Style but it’s definitely one of my favorite spots in the house! Now that baby number two is on the way our guest room is getting a complete overhaul and I’m pretty sure baby boy isn’t going to want this in his room! I’m so excited to design another nursery but I was faced with the challenge of figuring out what to do with my vanity.
A ton of my clothes lived in this room so I had to reorganize everything into our bedroom and it just seemed fitting to create some sort of vanity in my bedroom as well. With all of our furniture there isn’t much room to work with so I used a small wall by our sliding doors. This wall is 30″ wide so I had to get creative.
I looked online for any type of table or shelving unit but they were either too wide or too small so I went the DIY route.
I hit up the lumber section of Home Depot and purchased plywood and had them cut it to the dimensions I needed. A good trick to keep in mind is look for remnants/scraps or ask if they have any since you won’t need to purchase an entire piece of plywood. Mine came out to $8 bc it was an already cut piece! The depth I worked with was 16″.
The next thing I did was order marble contact paper and wrap the plywood in it. Make sure you use something small and hard like a credit card to secure the contact paper to the wood. Once those were set I used brackets to secure the two pieces to the wall. Even though you can’t really see the brackets I ended up spray painting them gold to match the rest of the space.
The reason I went with 2 shelves was because I knew I didn’t have the space to do anything with drawers so the bottom shelf allows me to store trays to keep my makeup organized. And since it’s not a huge space it helps me to just keep the basic products that I need. *I quickly learned that I will need to find something different to store my products since I have a toddler with sticky hands who can reach all my makeup on that bottom shelf!
I knew I would need a big mirror which worked out to fit perfectly in this space but what I needed more than anything was a mirror with lights! Lucky for me Glamcor makes the most perfect vanity mirror of all time! It has 5 stage dimming, HD daylight lighting. The one shown here is called the Riki Skinny. As if that weren’t enough it also comes with a magnetic 3x mirror and phone clip which works through bluetooth so you can take selfies with the perfect lighting! I’m seriously obsessed with this mirror. The hardest part about losing the big vanity were the lights but having this mirror completely makes up for it! They also have a mirror called the Riki Cutie which is the size of your cell phone and gives you the perfect lighting wherever you may be!
I am so happy to share this space because I can’t tell you how many women say to me that they wish they had the space to create a vanity in their home and now you do! If I can make a 30″ space work then you can too!
I’ve linked all the products I used down below in the widget. I’d love to see your version of this if you decide to make it! If you don’t already, Follow Me on Instagram and use #Made2Style for any projects you tackle from here.
