Best of Beauty 2016

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and is preparing for the end of 2016! This year has been so amazing filled with unforgettable memories and moments. Just when we thought this year couldn’t get any sweeter I learned that I was pregnant!! We are so beyond thrilled and can’t wait for 2017!

With the New Year just around the corner I wanted to come on here and share some of my favorite beauty products from this past year. I’ve definitely tried some products that I would probably never use again but others that I will be replacing over and over again!

Let’s start with hair first! I try to take great care of my hair. I am constantly having to color my roots because I grow a lot of gray and because of that I make sure to show extra love to it! The shampoo I have been using for the past 6 months is L’oreal Pro Fiber Recover Shampoo. This shampoo has legit changed my hair. You will immediately notice the difference in your hair from the first time you use it! It’s almost like you can feel the strengthening of each strand of hair. I can’t see myself using another shampoo for awhile now. I also always feel like after using a shampoo for awhile my hair gets used to it and that hasn’t happened at all.
Best of Beauty 2016 L'oreal Pro Fiber ShampooMy next favorite hair product this year is my GHD Eclipse hair straightener. I invested in a great hair iron instead of going for the typical drug store/beauty store irons and there has absolutely been a difference in my hair from breakage to shine. If you are someone who uses hair tools frequently then you need to click the link and read all about why GHD hair tools is a company you need to invest your money in!
Best if Beauty 2016 GHD Flat Iron Now if I were to really keep up with my hair color I would have to color my hair every 3 weeks. That’s a ton of hair color and money! I needed to find something to help those in between colors. I’ve tried color sticks in the past but I was never in love with anything. Then I randomly saw an ad on Instagram for the Rita Hazan Root Concealer. I figured I would give it a try and I’m so happy I did. It has made a huge difference! Especially during my first trimester when I went three whole months not dying my hair! It’s super easy to use I even have my husband spray it on me!

The last hair product I’m going to talk about is the Moroccanoil Hairspray. I am not one for putting too much product in my hair but this spray is amazing. It’s not only brushable but it doesn’t leave your hair stiff at all and it smells AMAZING!! I swear I think I use it more for the smell then anything else! If you’re looking for a spray to help hold your style without any crunch this is the spray for you!

Next up is skin care. I have tried so many different types of moisturizers, creams, face masks and all and to be honest with you I always felt like they really didn’t leave me feeling like they were making a big difference on my skin. So at the start of 2016 I promised myself that I would take better care of my skin so I started to get a microdermabrasion every month along with laser genesis which helps with your skins texture, fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, the list goes on and on! I definitely found these facials to make a difference in my skin but I began using some products at home to help maintain the good work my esthetician was doing.
The one area I really began focusing on was helping to reduce my melasma which I have on both sides of my cheeks. I did some research and found Meladerm and began using it and I definitely started to notice a difference. I discovered I was pregnant about 2 months after I began using it so I stopped and I’m hoping the pregnancy doesn’t make it worse since melasma is usually brought on by a change of hormones. Best of Beauty 2016 MeladermAnother must have product I discovered this year were these Cane + Austin glycolic pads. I started using them once a week and then once my skin got used to them I increased to twice to week to then every other day. I make sure to exfoliate my skin and without using any other products on my skin I wipe all around and then go to sleep! Best of Beauty 2016 Glycolic Pads This next product is something every woman needs to have!! I have tried so many eye creams. Some have had no effect. Others worked so-so but refused to work with my concealer. This eye cream has been a life changer! It’s the Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Eye Concentrate. My best friend turned me onto this product and I’m so glad she did. When it claims to reduce puffiness it is not lying! I can’t remember the last time I saw any puffiness under my eyes and my dark circles have visibly started to disappear. It is a bit pricey but if it works, it’s worth it and a little goes a long way!

As far as body care, my go to body lotion has been Beauty Counter’s Hydrating Body Lotion. It was a no brainer switching to a Beauty Counter product since all of their products are clean ingredients free of all toxins and chemicals and I put lotion all over my body everyday after showering. Plus it smells fantastic!

My makeup picks are only a few. I have some major ride or die makeup products that I could do an entire post on. For today I am just going to stick to products that I’ve discovered this year, whether old or new that I love. Starting with foundation. For the high end product I have to go with Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. I’ve always heard great things about this foundation and I finally bit the bullet and purchased it. I want it in every shade! It leaves your skin glowing and beautiful. Totally worth the splurge!Best of Beauty 2016 Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk FoundationMy go-to drug store foundation has always been Revlon’s Colorstay foundation but this year L’oreal came out with their Infallible collection and it is amazing! There is the Pro-Glow, Pro-Matte, and more recently Total Cover. They each offer a great formula whether you are looking for a dewy finish, a matte look or want to make sure that you’ve got full coverage. The formula is light-weight and they come in a wide range of colors!
Best of Beauty 2016 Infallible FoundationBest of Beauty 2016 Infallible FoundationBest of Beauty 2016 Infallible FoundationI’ve always been a soft pinky nude lover for lips! Blankety by MAC is my favorite lipstick ever. This year liquid lipsticks were all the rage so when NYX came out with NYX Lip Lingerie I went a little overboard and grabbed a whole bunch! My favorites that I have used over and over were #11 Babydoll, #7 Satin Ribbon, and my favorite of them all #3 Laced Detail.

I’d love to hear what beauty products made your best of list!

Halloween Home Tour 2016

As promised my Halloween tour is here! You guys I am obsessed with decorating for Halloween. Last year was the first time I did anything other than Fall decor so when the time came I of course went out and got some more objects and I can promise you, it’s only going to get bigger and better from here. Halloween has become my new Christmas!

Let’s start with the outside and then in. I kept it very simple this year outside mainly because I went a little nuts on the Fall decor.

Our Wedding 5.1.16

Hi everyone! I’m officially back to blogging after what has seemed like forever! Wedding planning can literally eat up every ounce of time you have! It almost makes me wonder about all the women out there that become obsessed with their wedding, what must happen to them once it’s over? Postpartum anyone? HA! In the beginning, I was not really into it at all. I was lucky enough to have a pretty good idea on all the vendors I was going to use. Not having to shop around too much helped and once all the bookings were done things started to get a bit more relaxed. We definitely started to get into the whole process and really did enjoy it especially when I decided to work on some DIY projects! We also didn’t have a bridal party (just MOH, Best Man and Flower Girl) which I think makes a huge difference when planning!  The month before the wedding of course things started to get a bit more intense and stressful but all events can do that to you!

Our day was amazing! I remember checking the forecast the week of the wedding and seeing that it was going to rain and not being so happy about it. I will say this one thing to any future bride…it doesn’t matter. The morning of our wedding I woke up and it was gloomy looking outside, it was about 55 degrees, and drizzling and I could care less. I also didn’t freak about much over the wedding because at the end of the day there is nothing you can do about things that are out of your control. All that mattered to me was that I was marrying the man of my dreams. This was our day and there was nothing that could take that away from me.

After sharing photos of our engagement and my bridal shower it only seemed fitting to come on here and share our wedding photos! Our photographer was Photography by Alfonso. He is someone I’ve known for a long time which made our experience so amazing. He’s ridiculously talented and while he had brought an entire crew with him (5 guys), during our reception I never even noticed them in the room. It’s so important that you click with your photographer and feel comfortable with them. It will make the biggest difference when your day comes! Ok enough babble for today, here are some of my favorite shots!

Getting ready pictures are always my favorite! This first one is a favorite because I remember texting with Frank and I love that they captured that moment! If you click on this first picture you can view them larger.

Here are a few from the reception! 1746_resize1758_resize1752_resize1764_resize1797_resize1128_resize1134_resize1834_resize1839_resize1842_resizeI love looking through all of these over and over again! Now I have to narrow our 1200 photos to 100 for our album! That should be fun.
Stay tuned as we are doing some fun house projects and will have a bunch of updates coming up!
Thanks for being so awesome!

My Beautiful Bridal Shower

Hi everyone! It’s been awhile since I’ve written a post but it turns out planning a wedding takes a lot of work! I will admit the entire process has been quite daunting and a ton of work. Being the DIYer that I am I wanted to take on at least one task so I decided to make my own invitations. I’ve made tons of invitations before so I knew what to expect but being that these were our wedding invitations it quickly became a much bigger deal! I’m happy to say they turned out just as I wanted and the response cards are slowly rolling in! The wedding is less than 2 months away and the excitement is really starting to build now!

This past weekend my amazing mother and MOH, my best friend, threw me the most beautiful shower a girl could ask for! I didn’t know anything about it other than the date and the location.  It was held at the same restaurant that Frank and I had brunch the morning he proposed to me, The Bedford Post Inn in Bedford, NY. My best friend took on the task of decorating the space and there was no way I couldn’t come on here and share it because she blew me away!! I seriously think she needs to start a party planning business! The theme she went with was blush and gold…I mean could she know me any better??

For those who have been asking, the skirt I wore that day was made for me by Welcome to Royalty I was so in love with it! I literally felt like Cinderella in it! I went to Joann’s and purchased a gold sequin ribbon to create a belt to give it a little touch of sparkle and the lace top was one I already owned!

We are officially 50 days away from the wedding and I cannot wait!!

Beauty Tip Tuesday: Adding Pops of Color

Beauty Tip Tuesday Banner

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying the week so far! Today I wanted to share a fun tip on adding pops of color to your eyes.  I recently filmed a video using green eyeshadow but sometimes it’s hard to commit to brushing a shadow color on your lid.  I know how comforting it is to stick with neutral colors which is why I wanted to share another way you can add color that may be less scary!

Something I love to do if I want to add some color to my eyes is use a colored eye pencil and/or colored mascara! I’ve always used colored pencils, from purple to blue to green.  More recently I started using colored mascara and I love it! Depending on the color you use you can be as bold or as subtle as you want to be.  Down below is a shot of one eye using NYX Slim Eye Pencil in Sapphire.

NYX might have the best colored pencils out there! Not only are they super inexpensive but they have amazing staying power! I think I own every color that they make!

If colored pencils aren’t your thing something else you might want to consider trying is colored mascara. In the photo below I am wearing Benefit’s They’re Real mascara in Beyond Blue with a simple black kohl eye pencil.  This mascara is so much fun and you don’t really notice it until you get close up!

Here’s another shot looking straight on. The eye on the left is a black liner with blue mascara and the eye on the right is a blue eye liner with black mascara. You could even try blue eye liner with blue mascara!

I’ve seen all sorts of different colored mascara’s from high end to drugstore so if you want to add a little hint of color you could always give these a try!

Fall Makeup Eye Look

Hi everyone! I’m here today to share a fun Fall eye look that I recently filmed. Every once in awhile I like to step out of my comfort zone of neutral colors and add a little something different to my look. This eye uses a beautiful olive green color that is subtle enough for anyone to pull off! DSC04172 2Head over to my YouTube channel to check out the video!

Thank you all so much for the great response on my beauty tip Tuesday posts! I’m so happy so many of you are enjoying them! I have a ton of more tips up my sleeve to share so no worries! If you have been around these parts for awhile you’ll know I am a sucker for skin care.  I love trying new products and of course sharing with you so when I tried some under eye patches and skin serum from AlureVe of course I had to come on here and tell you all about it!

As soon as the weather starts to change my skin immediately feels it. My once normal skin starts to become super dry so I was excited to try the Day and Night serum. It certainly has the ‘little goes a long way’ quality which I love. Not only can it be used day and night but it is anti-aging which unfortunately for me is a plus. It left my skin feeling extremely smooth and wore beautifully under my makeup.  I had about 5 applications from the sample and noticed my skin felt super soft and smooth!

For another look, here’s a before and after photo my gorgeous blog buddy Mindy from Finding Silver Linings posted. She used the day and night serum for 3 weeks. Look at how much brighter and more even her skin looks!

Something else I was excited to try were the under eye patches. DSC04687 They work at targeting fine lines and wrinkles and help to tighten under eye skin as well as keeping it hydrated and healthy! I definitely wish I had more of these to try. I put them on right before going to bed making sure to apply the serum first and slept with them on. Warning: A late night photo followed by early morning photo are about to burn your eyes! Alureve ProductsBy the next morning, 6:30am to be exact,  I took them off and washed my face.  You can clearly see how they brightened my under eye! I almost wished I had placed them a little higher!Alureve ProductsThe one difference I noticed besides the brightness was how hydrated my under eye was. It made applying my concealer and setting powder a dream since it sat so beautifully on my skin!  I love trying a product and seeing a difference right away like this!  If you want to learn more about AlureVe products or get your hands on it yourself you can click HERE to do that!

Anyone out there with dark circles as excited as me?
An AlureVe rep supplied me with the samples used in this post. All opinions are 100% my own!
